Finding True Rest in a Busy Season
How can it be May already?
As we step into May, life often begins to feel a little fuller—end-of-school activities, travel plans, and shifting routines. It is Mental Health Month, Teacher Appreciation Week, Nurses Week and I’m sure many more. At my house it is graduation season again, where did the time go? In the middle of it all, it’s easy to push rest to the side. Yet Scripture reminds us that rest is not a luxury—it is a gift from God.
Even Jesus Christ regularly stepped away from the crowds to pray, to be still, and to be renewed. If He made space for rest, we can too.
Rest is more than stopping—it’s restoring.
It’s intentionally creating space to reconnect with God, quiet our minds, and renew our spirits.
This month, we invite you to consider a few simple rhythms of mental and spiritual rest:
Start your day with stillness.
Before reaching for your phone, take a few quiet moments. Breathe deeply and offer a simple prayer: “Lord, I am here.”
Practice “breath prayers.”
Throughout your day, when stress rises, pause:
Inhale: “Be still…”
Exhale: “…and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
Create space for Sabbath.
Set aside time each week to step away from productivity. Choose what truly restores you—a walk, a nap, time in Scripture, or simply sitting in God’s presence.
Release what you’re carrying.
Write down your worries and intentionally give them to God in prayer. You were never meant to carry everything alone.
Choose gratitude.
Each day, name a few things you’re thankful for. Gratitude gently shifts our hearts away from stress and toward God’s goodness.
As a church family, let’s encourage one another to embrace rest—not as something we earn, but as something God lovingly offers. In a world that constantly pushes us to do more, may we be people who remember how to be still.
Speaking of the church family, we are going to celebrate our high school and college graduates on May 30th. Please let the church office know if you have a family member you would like included in the celebration.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
May this month be one of renewal—for your mind, your body, and your spirit.
Blessings to you and yours,
Rosie Robinson
