A Walk Through Holy Week

The journey began on Ash Wednesday with the imposition of the ashes and it has taken a meandering path through a transfiguration, then healings and teachings, and finally in about three weeks it will find us in Jerusalem for the last week of Jesus’ life in the flesh.

Preparing for Lenten Music

The beginning of Lent, which is Ash Wednesday, is March 6, and Easter Day is April 21. Easter Day is celebrated on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox. This year, that full moon, called the Paschal Moon, is a month past the spring equinox. Ash Wednesday is 40 days before Easter Day (not counting Sundays). It’s an amazing plan, I think.

Providence Youth Happenings - February

Providence Youth members are set to have a big month in February, with a bake sales at the Men of the Church fundraiser on the first, and the after-worship lunch on Feb 3. Both of these events will raise money to help us pay for Montreat housing. Plus, we’ll be delivering cards and cookies to our member shut-ins as our service project on Feb 17.

Thornwell Mission Update

Our church family began a relationship with Thornwell Home for Children about three years ago when Jenn Stanley came to a Men of the Church meeting and made a presentation about Thornwell. She did such a good job that by the end of the meeting we had scheduled a BBQ chicken fundraiser, which raised about $1,500 for Thornwell.
