Easter Butterflies
April 2025
Why do Christian’s gather on Easter morning? Of course, to celebrate Jesus’ victory over death itself. For since he is our Lord and Saviour, his victory is our victory. For centuries, butterflies have been used to illustrate the mystery of this miracle. This Easter, we are planning to bring this illustration to life.
Just as Christ was buried in the dark, the butterfly buries itself within a chrysalis. Just as Jesus arose and was changed, the butterfly emerges transformed into a new life. Paul teaches that “we all shall be changed” and the Christian hope is that what is sown in the grave as a weak mortal body will be raised with a new spiritual body.
On Easter morning, Mary found the tomb was empty and the disciples saw Jesus’ grave clothes lying on the cold slab. Only the corpse was gone, much like an empty chrysalis deserted by a butterfly who has left to soar free.
There are many mysteries about death, but two things Christian’s know for sure; (1) death is a conquered enemy, and more importantly (2) Jesus’s resurrection from the grave is God’s proof to us that death is not the end.
Join us at Sunrise or at the cross after the 11:00am service, to celebrate Jesus’ victory over death and our own everlasting life with him through his resurrection. You might even see a butterfly alight on the cross with the flowers. Now that’s a photo worth taking!
