From the Study
November 2024
Dear Providence Congregation:
November is going to be a busy month as we head into the holidays. We have so much to be grateful for as we have watched the devastation all around us. Many of us learned what it was like to do without power for a few days, but we have folks to our northwest that are still without. Many of you have risen to the need and have contributed to help our neighbors. Please take a moment to thank Chuck Pardue for his selfless dedication to the people of Swannanoa. He has taken several truckloads of goods himself to aid the people and will do more as needed.
There is so much happening and so many opportunities to give that I am going to list them and the sights where you can give. Thank you for all that have contributed to the disaster relief in whatever way you gave. This is going to be a long process of recovery and there will be needs for a long time. You can send your donation to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance or PDA by giving to the church and we will send it, or send to pcusa.org/PDA and code is DR000169.

November is Thornwell Emphasis Month and their theme for this month is Foundations in HOPE. If you remember filling out a turkey when you were a child, you know what I’m talking about. When I was a child, you put dimes in the little slots on the turkey, then it was quarters. They also have envelopes that we will put in the bulletin a couple of times this month.
We celebrated All Saints’ Day on Sunday, November 3. It was a glorious day, complete with beautiful bagpipe music. We read the names of all church members who have joined the church triumphant this year, as well as those you requested to recognize on this special day. We also observed communion.
We will have a Community Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday evening November 26th at 6:00 pm with a reception to follow. Congaree Presbyterian, parent church of Providence, will be attending and Trinity United Methodist and Brookland United Methodist will also join us. This is a time to come together once again to worship, give thanks and fellowship with our neighbors. There will be a reception afterwards in the Fellowship Hall with hot apple cider and pumpkin bread.
I hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving!
