From the Study

From the Pastor’s Desk

Here it is March with spring around the corner. Daffodils are already blooming and my Lenten roses are out in full color and beautiful this year. Birds have made their nests and laid their eggs. Flowers and birds excite me. They give me hope in the present and for the future.

I follow a writer by the name of Diana Butler Bass who wrote about a tree in Utah that covers 106 acres. Of course, I questioned this so looked it up on Google and the tree is in Fishlake National Forest, Utah. It is an aspen tree that has been named Pando. It is thought to be well over 10,000 years old and has 47,000 trunks growing out of its one root system.

I thought about how we as God’s people have grown out of one root system, Abraham and Sarah had a son, Isaac, and from Isaac came Jacob and from Jacob,(skipping a few) Jesse, David and the system goes all the way to Mary and Joseph and Jesus. We have come from a very diverse group of people. Bass likes to say a single, organic, interconnected group.

It's a wonderful thought that we are all from a system that is interconnected from a heavenly Father who loves us unconditionally and watches each of us grow and helps us to become all that we can be. May we walk together this Lenten Season, lifting one another up, praying for our neighbors and loved ones. May we think about all we have in common, about all we share and from diverse groups all we can learn. Have a meaningful Lenten journey as we journey beyond the cross to a glorious Easter morning.

Blessings,

Pastor Alice
