From the Treasurer

February 2024

I want to express appreciation to our members that sent an extra contribution for the recent and unexpected facilities crisis. The Operations committee asked members to prayerfully consider contributing for the repairs since our funds would not cover these costs.

The plumbing repairs in the North wing (by the coffee machine) cost $25,000 and another $24,000 repair for the HVAC system. The CDC paid for the plumbing repairs, and we received approximately $27,000 from our members to cover the HVAC repairs during December and January. It was a time of need when our members came together to fulfill our needs. God is good.

Our analysis of 2023 shows that we achieved 84% of our budgeted goal. Pledges amounted to only half of our budget and were only 90% fulfilled.

Last year our budget was $222,438 and contributions totaled $187,151. That covered 84% of our budget. The 2024 budget will be smaller. However, our active membership has dropped to 103, which means we will need everyone to continue giving from your heart.

I recently learned that some members over 70 1/2 years of age are taking a RMD (required minimum distribution) from their IRAs and making a Qualified Charitable Donation. They must have the check made directly to the church to avoid any additional income tax. If you need more information read https://www.irs.gov/tax-free-gifts-to-charity. And, you can feel safe your money gets to us because we have a new locking mailbox thanks to George Hayes and Chuck Pardue.

As always, please reach out to me anytime you have a question about anything. I’ll be happy to see how I can help.
